What is ITIL?

Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) is a standardized framework of Good IT Practices. ITIL also provides guidance on engineering IT processes to optimally support IT services. ITIL has grown from process standardization guidance to a framework for strategic business integration. ITIL framework include IT Service Support and Service Delivery, the Business Perspective, and Infrastructure, Application, and Security Management.



What is a Service?

A service is a means of delivering value to customers by facilitating outcomes customers want to achieve without the ownership of specific costs or risks (e.g.: Database Services, ERP Application Services, others)


What is ITSM?

IT Service Management (ITSM) is the broader discipline for providing IT services to business users, based on ITIL framework, to deliver cost effective, repeatable IT services. Typical objectives in organizations implementing ITSM are to improve IT services, be more responsive to business needs, and to better manage IT costs. The objective of the ITIL Service Management practice framework is to provide services to business customers that are fit for purpose, stable, and that are so reliable that the business views them as a trusted utility.


ITIL V(3) consists of five categories, with a more strategic perspective:


Service Strategy: Provides guidance on how to view service management not only as an organizational capability but as a strategic asset.

Service Design: Provides guidance for the design and development of services and service management practices.

Service Transition: Provides guidance for the development and improvement of capabilities for transitioning new and changed services into live service operation.

Service Operation: Provides guidance on achieving effectiveness and efficiency in the delivery and support of services to ensure value for the customer and the service provider.

Continual Service Improvement: Provides guidance in creating and maintaining value for customers through better design, transition, and operation of services.

About Me

I have 20 years of thorough experience in the Information Technology industry, specializing in Oracle Database, Fusion Middleware, OBIEE, Oracle E-Business Applications, Hyperion, UPK, Oracle Cloud & Virtualization Administration using Oracle Development / Administration / Management / Training tools on different platforms across industry, including C&IP (Manufacturing, Supply Chain Planning), HCM, Financials, and TMT, with knowledge in Project Management, Application Strategy, Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC), and Application Testing (Unit, System, Integration, UAT, and Performance). I worked on number of projects, implementing custom and ERP/CRM Oracle applications and used AIM/ Macro-scope methodology Project Documentation and version control. I used IT Service Management (ITSM) guidelines and ITIL framework on projects to manage Oracle Infrastructure.
